Where Maui Meets Magic

A Stay at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua

Some hotels give you a place to sleep. A rare few instill a sense of magic. Nestled along one of Maui’s most breathtaking coastlines, The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua is that rare kind of place — where the Pacific horizon feels close enough to touch, the air smells of plumeria and salt, and every moment feels intentionally, luxuriously alive.

I was thrilled to be one of five travel advisors selected to experience this property and why it is a top property on beautiful Maui.  Here’s a look at what made this stay truly unforgettable.

Arriving Into Aloha

From the moment you step onto the grounds, Kapalua does something to you. Set within 22,000 acres of a pristine nature reserve, the resort is surrounded by sacred land full of restorative energy and you feel it immediately.  This was my first trip to Maui in years, and within an hour of setting foot on the property, I was already starting to relax and embrace my tranquil surroundings.

A sunset view with dramatic clouds and a golden glow over a resort surrounded by palm trees.
Sunrise from my balcony with a cup of coffee…perfection.

Dining That Celebrates the Island

Food here isn’t just sustenance — it’s storytelling. Six dining experiences draw from the resort’s own sustainable organic garden, the freshest local seafood, and Pacific-inspired cuisine, the Ritz Carlton Kapalua believes in creating meals that feel deeply rooted in the land and sea around you.

The crown jewel is Banyan Tree, the resort’s signature restaurant. This open-air dining room offers a sophisticated coastal experience built around the finest seafood and locally sourced ingredients, and it just earned the 2025 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. For a truly special evening, don’t miss the Friday Chef’s Table — an alfresco five-course dinner under the Maui stars, with a menu that changes weekly to highlight whatever’s fresh and seasonal.

For something more spontaneous, the Alaloa Lounge is where evenings come alive. Specialty sushi starts at 4 p.m., live music kicks in at 6, and a nightly sunset ceremony bids farewell to the day in the most Hawaiian way imaginable.  Order a Mai Tai, settle in, and let the sun do the rest.

And for the food lover who wants to go deeper: the monthly Kapalua Wine & Chef Series brings Michelin-starred and James Beard-recognized guest chefs to Banyan Tree for exclusive four-course tasting menus — a bucket-list dining experience hiding in paradise.

Experiences You Can’t Find Anywhere Else

Here’s what sets Kapalua apart: with more than 70 weekly events and activities — more than any other hotel in Hawaii — boredom is simply not an option. Whether you’re craving adventure, culture, wellness, or all three, the resort meets you exactly where you are.  You can spend a week solely on the resort property and have an incredible Hawaiian experience!

On the water, Kapalua Bay offers some of Maui’s best snorkeling right off the beach. Back on shore, outdoor recreation ranges from championship golf and zip lining to ATV rides, horseback riding, pickleball, and coastal bike rides. For wellness seekers, the 17,500-square-foot spa incorporates Hawaiian healing practices into its seasonal treatments, while morning yoga on the lawn and labyrinth meditation walks offer quieter ways to restore.

One not-to-miss experience: Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment program. Led by naturalists with degrees in botany, biology, and oceanography, these guided adventures include coastal hikes, tide pool explorations, and hands-on encounters with marine life — meaningful, educational, and genuinely moving.

For a show-stopping evening, the Tales of the Kapa Moe Lūʻau delivers. Expect authentic hula, Polynesian music, and a dramatic fire knife dance paired with a feast that includes a build-your-own poke station. It’s one of those nights you’ll talk about for years, and on par with the rest of the dining, the food was spectacular.

This resort is made for couples seeking a romantic escape, families ready for adventure and culture, and solo travelers craving both indulgence and inspiration.
